Facilitator: Diane Harries

Duration of project: 9 June to 15 November 2024
Enrolment: by 9th June
Notification of pairing/s: 14 June
Completion of project/submission of images: by 15 November

Concept: A collaborative printmaking exercise to encourage PCANZ members to make contacts with other printmakers (and possibly to continue exchanges after this project) and:

  • to explore the unusual psychological terrain of working into another person’s artwork

  • while also letting go of any territorial habits and giving another person free rein to interpret the work submitted.

Process: Each participant will source two (at least) pieces of printmaking paper and print a background layer onto the paper as an edition (i.e. the same print).

Size of prints: A size that will fit into an A4 postbag is suggested, but this may be negotiated between the pair if they wish another size.

Layer 1: These background layer prints will then be sent to the other member of the pair.

Layer 2: On receipt of these prints the other participant will formulate a response to the background layer and print a second layer onto it.

Next, each participant will return one final print to the other partner.

Reporting Request: All participants are requested to take a photo of each layer that they print and submit their images at the end of the project via the file upload button below.

The images will be shared amongst members via the PCANZ website, social media and the quarterly newsletter.

Images to be submitted at the end of the project by 15th November.

Enrolment: Please fill in the enrolment form below and pay fee $10 by 9th June. A member may enrol for more than one partnership if they wish, with a $10 fee for each pair. Payment details in the enrolment form or to PCANZ Bank Account: 03 0791 0387378 00 with Ref: Full Name and Rebound

The costs of the paper and the two postage fees will be met by each participant.

The facilitator will receive the entry forms and match up the pairs. Each participant will be notified of the contact details of the partner they have been paired with by 14th June.

Timeframe: This may be negotiated between each pair, although it is suggested that a maximum of two months for each print layer would be good to maintain enthusiasm and to facilitate compilation of images for the subsequent PCANZ online exhibition.

Completion of project and image submission: by 15th November.
