Jasmine is a printmaker, jewellery maker and graphic designer of Te Āti Haunui-a-Pāpārangi, Te Atiawa ki Whakarongotai, Ngāti Tūwharetoa, Irish and British descent.
In this two day workshop you will learn about the concepts of whakawhanaungatanga and whakapapa through the alternative photographic process of Cyanotype.
Day one will be an exploration of photograms and printing with negatives. You’ll also learn about multiple exposures, bleaching and toning your cyanotypes to change their colour from blue to sepia.
Day two will look at different ways you can create taonga (jewellery) from your prints. Every student will come away with a variety of prints and a pair of earrings or a brooch.
Jasmine is a member of the Māori print collective Toi Whakaata (est 2006) who’s work tends to explore the concepts of haukāinga (home), whakapapa (genealogy), ūkaipo (origins) and wairua (spirit). How environment & wellbeing, land & spiritual connectedness and culture & identity all intertwine.
